A coordinated team approach is required to support the success of adults with developmental disabilities (DD) who experience complex communicative needs (CCN) and do not rely on speech. This module provides information about recommended practices for the implementation of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), including strategies for building communicative competence and the important role of communication partners.

Corinne Thomas-Kersting, MS, CCC-SLP

Corinne Thomas-Kersting is a Speech-Language Pathologist and retired Special Education Administrator. During her 30+ years in the schools, Corinne served as an AAC consultant and Transition Program Principal. Her career has focused on advocating for educational equity and supporting people becoming successful communicators. She has taught communication workshops to Personal Support Workers throughout the state of Oregon and currently serves as a Board Member of Independence Northwest Brokerage Services for People with Disabilities.
