Overview
Hundreds of schools across the nation use a process that was developed by the Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative (WATI) to support AT consideration and assessment. This module provides an overview of the WATI assistive technology consideration, assessment and planning process. It also provides step-by-step directions for using the WATI process and forms to determine student AT needs and plan for successful implementation of selected AT devices and services.

Penny Reed, Ph.D.
Penny Reed, Ph.D., is an independent consultant in the field of special education specializing in assistive technology (AT) services. She was founder and director of the Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative, a statewide technical assistance project on assistive technology funded by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction from 1993 to 2003. Dr. Reed is a member of the Leadership Team for Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology Services (QIAT) and co-author of Education Tech Points: A Framework for Assistive Technology. She was a recipient of the National Leadership Award from the Technology and Media Division of the Council for Exceptional Children.
